Terms of Use

Last updated 2026-08-25

The short version: these are free tools for editing saves from games you own, they come with no warranty, and you should keep a backup of any file before you change it. For how your data is handled, see the privacy policy.

What this service is

Game Save Editor is a free set of browser-based tools for editing save files from games you already own. Everything runs as static pages plus JavaScript that executes in your own browser; there is no account to create and nothing to install.

By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the editors.

How you may use it

Use the editors on save files that belong to you, from copies of games you legitimately own, for your own single-player enjoyment. That is what these tools are built for.

Do not use the site to edit save data belonging to someone else without their permission, to gain an advantage in multiplayer or competitive play, to circumvent purchases or anti-cheat systems, or in any way that breaks the terms of service of the game you are playing. Some games detect modified saves, and some publishers treat that as a bannable offence. That risk is yours to weigh, not ours to carry.

Do not attempt to disrupt the site itself — no scraping at a volume that degrades it for others, no attempts to break into infrastructure, no republishing the site as your own service.

Back up your save first

Save formats are undocumented. They are worked out by reading real files and comparing them, and games change them between patches without telling anyone. An editor that is correct today can be wrong after an update, and a file that looks fine can still fail to load.

So before you edit anything, copy the original save somewhere safe. Because your file never reaches us, we hold no copy of it — if an edit goes wrong, your own backup is the only thing that can bring it back. There is nothing on our side to restore from.

No warranty

The site and its editors are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not promise that an editor reads every version of a save format correctly, that the site will be available at any given moment, or that it is free of defects.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site — including corrupted or unreadable save files, lost game progress, or action taken against your account by a game publisher.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you, such as liability for death, personal injury, or fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or liabilities, in which case the exclusions above apply only as far as that law allows.

Games, trademarks and third-party work

Game names, characters and trademarks referred to on this site belong to their respective owners. We use them only to describe which game an editor works with. This site is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any game developer or publisher.

Where an editor was built with the help of open-source work by other people, that work is credited in the project's attribution file, along with the licence it was released under.

Changes and availability

These terms may change; the date at the top of the page changes with them, and continuing to use the site after that counts as accepting the new version. Editors may be added, changed or withdrawn at any time — for example when a game update breaks a save format badly enough that the editor would do more harm than good.
